Punjab Basketball Association and its entire executive along with the fraternity of the coaches and players deeply mourned the demise of Om Parkash Dhull, an Arjuna Awardee(1979) in Basketball who breathed his last after a prolonged illness.R.S Gill DGP Retd, President PBA informed that Dhull who represented Services in Basketball was also awarded Vashist Sewa Medal in 1985. Teja Singh Dhaliwal Gen Sec PBA said that as a versatile coach,he groomed many players and was an excellent human being too. Yurinder Singh Hayer Sr. VP of PBA asked the players to imbibe discipline of players like Dhull as awards and honors follow only the dedication.
PBA President and Gen Sec also mourned the demise of a field hockey player Charanjit Singh who captained the Indian hockey team that won the gold medal in the 1964 Summer Olympics at Tokyo, Japan.Born in Himachal Pradesh, earlier he also was a member of Indian hockey team which won a silver medal in the 1962 Asian Games.He was alsoawarded Padma Shri. While, Condololing his death T.S.Riar, the Additional Director Communication at PAU said thatCharanjit Singh while serving as Dy Director Welfare(Sports) at PAU fromMarch 1965 to June,1968 worked very passionately for development of sports in the campus .Sukhpal Singh Brar( DCP Retd.) an Aruuna Awardee in Volleyball also mourned the demise of two iconic players from this region who inspired many young players. Brij Goyal, a sports promoterappealed governments to involve living legends from the regionin their lifetimes in sportsfor promotion of sports sincerely for a healthy youth generation.
